It’s hard to imagine – let alone describe – the feeling one can get when surrounded by 2500 interested and interesting people from all over the world meeting together to take “one more step on their Jewish journey” as the people behind LimmudUK say. As a representative of LimmudPhilly, I got to take part in the 30th anniversary of the LimmudUK conference. I was part of our local delegation to visit the conference taking place December 24-30, 2011 at the University of Warwick in England.
I have to say it is an incredible experience to be with Jews from all over the world and all walks of life – I met new people every day and attended sessions like Math and the Mishna, Jewish Origami, and a talk from the director of Srugim, Israeli TV’s modern-orthodox parallel to Friends. It was quite a whirlwind week of walking around campus, attempting to get to lectures on time, and all the while contemplating what it is that really connects all of the Jewish people at the conference together.
Attending the LimmudUK conference invigorated me even more for our upcoming conference March 4-6, 2011. I can’t wait to be walking through the hallways trying to make sure I get a seat listening to Matt Bar, Yehuda Sarna, Eli Friedman, or any of the other presenters we have coming. Registration is now open so make sure you take advantage of the discount before it’s up on February 4th!
